Dmitry Yevgenievich Afinogenov, born 1965, joined the Institute of World History in 1990 after graduating from Moscow Lomonosov University (Dept. of Classical philology) and postgraduate studies at the Institute. Ph. D. (history) 1991, Dr. Hab. (philology) 1998. Leading research associate from 1999. Professor at the Dept. of Byzantine and Modern Greek philology, Moscow Lomonosov University. Member of editorial board of Journal of Ancient History and Bogoslovskie Trudy.

Fellowship holder from various scholarly institutions in USA, France, Sweden, Germany and Greece, including Dumbarton Oaks (Washington, DC), Institute for Advanced Study (Princeton, NJ), Maison des Sciences de l'Homme (Paris, France) and A. von Humboldt Stiftung (Cologne and Munich, Germany).
