The Institute of World History of Russian Academy of Sciences has a pleasure to announce a call for papers to the international academic conference “The World History and New Challenges of Historical Science: National, Transnational and International Approaches” which will be held on September 29-30, 2016 in Moscow.

The conference aims to unite the leading scholars from Russia, CIS countries and the EU.

The Conference aims to reveal and understand the latest tendencies in a study of World History in various countries, to mark the most perspective research fields, discuss theoretic and methodological instruments of study and specify changes in vocabulary used in new ways of study and interpretation of history.

The Conference will focus on the following major topics:


  • The World History and a revival of “big narrative”: new forms of scientific, political and moral legitimization;

  • National and state history challenged by globalization;

  • New images of World History and the issues of historical (theoretical and methodological) synthesis;

  • Transnational history and approaches to study of a society in the age of mass migration;

  • History of cultural transfers and “new comparative” history;

  • International approaches to study of the past: task, possibilities, prospects for the future.

The working languages: Russian and English. Applications are expected before September18 2016, thesis – by address ipi-igh@yandex.ru,  europe@igh.ru (Eugeny Savitskiy). The Organizing Committee selects the best papers for publication in a special issue of the the Institute’s Electronic Science and Education Journal “History”

The Organizers provide accommodation (hotel in Moscow and meeting in the airport) during the conference. The full or partial ticket reimbursement is available upon a request.
